FAQ

FAQ

1. What is the difference between SSI and SSDI?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) are both programs for individuals with disabilities providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly payment. SSI is designed for those with low income and resources and is not paid based on credits you've received through working and paying into Social Security. SSDI is for individuals who are disabled and do have enough work credits in Social Security based on past work. SSA will determine which program you qualify for and benefits you most financially.

2. What is the cost of hiring a representative through At Hand Disability Solutions?

There are no upfront cost to hiring a representative. Your representative will only be paid in the event of a favorable decision on your case. The current fee is 25% of the back due benefits with a maximum set by SSA of no more than $7,200. This is a one time payment based on your total back pay benefits and a representative will receive no portion of your ongoing monthly checks. At Hand will cover case expenses during the application process such as medical record requests and will not collect any payment from you in the event your case is denied.

3. Do I need to hire a representative to apply for disability benefits through Social Security?

No, a professional representative is not required to apply for benefits. However, due to high denial rates a professional can increase your chances of receiving a favorable decision and also ease the burden of navigating the complicated government processes and paperwork. Some clients decide to initially apply on their own and wait to hire a representative when they need to appeal and appear at a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ).

4. Why should I hire At Hand to assist with my case?

With At Hand Disability Solutions you receive personal service and regular access to your representative to discuss any questions or concerns. All potential clients receive a free phone consultation. Once becoming a client you will receive help covering case expenses, assistance on applications and supplemental forms, guidance and advice through the entire claims process, direct access to your representative by phone, and flexibility for in-person meetings with your representative. We work around your schedule and location to make the process as easy for you as possible.
